About Maya Machin
I make each piece from beginning to end with my hands, paying close attention to how it feels in the hand, how it lets our eyes rest, and our minds wander. I resist the pull to produce more work more quickly, but instead try to focus on making work that has beauty, character, and functions flawlessly. Wood-firing allows me to be physically engaged in the firing process, but at the same time forces me to relinquish control and realize that the fire will do what it wants at the end of the day. The elements of surprise, unpredictability, and variation add richness to my pots that my hand alone could not create.
