About Katie Maciocha

I am inspired by mid-century modern design, repeating patterns, and the beauty of intentional, refined forms. Working primarily with stoneware, my pieces are either thrown on the wheel or slab-built. Each design begins as a sketch on bisque, then evolves as I hand-cut adhesive paper to create the motif. I favor the tape-resist method over 3D stencil printing because it allows the mark of my hand to resonate within the controlled design. Bold glazes punctuate the surfaces of my work, framed by raw clay lines that invite a tactile connection between the viewer and the object. My goal is to create pieces that stand on their own as art while enriching daily life.
