About Peter Schilling
I work to create finely designed and crafted contemporary art in jade. I think of my jewelry as small-scale sculptural artworks that are also wearable objects. While this inspiring material has a 7,000-year pedigree as an artistic medium, I'm constantly working to create newly designed art jewelry that is totally relevant for today's fine craft audience. I do all this carving myself with abrasive processes of sawing, grinding, sanding, and finishing. The hand work involved gives the pendants and earrings I create a special, personal feel that mass production cannot. I draw inspiration from natural objects such as shells, seed pods, fruits, and nuts. I find the natural geometry of these objects fascinating.
