About Clara Schulte

Choosing to work with traditional draft patterns and modeling my work on those historically made in homes in the Appalachian Mountains brings me closer to the women of these households: the women needed to make something useful but chose to make something beautiful. This is what I pursue in my work: beauty and use, the everyday heirloom. I take great pride and comfort in the belief that the act of weaving ties me more tightly to all the women at their own looms who have come before me. My work is stewardship and preservation of an almost lost craft.
