About Helen Prior

Deeply rooted in the natural world, my ceramics and textiles are a cross-pollination of the leaves and wildflowers of the Hudson Valley combined with stylized flower patterns from my historical textile archive. By cutting fine lines and pressing found objects into clay, I create rhythmic patterns on delicate, organic vessels. The intention is to make an unforced impression of nature, with a visual cohesion that is modern and beautiful. A balance of torn edges, the natural color of unglazed clay, freehand drawing alongside sharp geometric motifs, color glazes, and the occasional punctuation of gold luster.
