About Galen Gibson-Cornell
I create paper weavings from street posters that I collect myself while exploring the walls and streets of many of the world's cities. After I pull down sheets and scraps of colorful urban paper I return to my Philadelphia studio and begin to work slicing them into strips and fragments, and weaving them back together into new and recycled compositions. I have a background in traditional printmaking. This craft history gives me a special insight into how these street posters are produced, and as a result I am able to hand-print my own sheets of colored paper to interweave into the found posters.
