About Trefny Dix and Bengt Hokanson

The exhilaration of transforming a hot liquid like material into a colorful glass sculpture is always challenging, and it feels a little like controlled gambling. Our work is about color and stories of places. The urban inner city, the Blue Ridge mountains, the Southwest desert, and the Long Island coast, are all places we have lived. We have drawn inspiration for our work from all these environments. Like the weaving of traditional textile work, we layer impressions of each place into our glass, making sculptural forms that remind us of these places. We are creating color stories that describe the environment, and the color palettes unique to each place. We use a combination of classical Italian and Swedish glass blowing techniques, and experimental techniques we have developed to make our work.
