About Kristin Gereau

All of my wearable pieces begin as black and white yarn  which I first hand dye to create rich, saturated color. Starting with a neutral base allows the dye to move through the fibers in unique ways, producing layered hues and one-of-a-kind color combinations. After dyeing, each piece is knit using hand-manipulated techniques on a knitting machine, allowing me to shape and control the fabric as it grows. Each scarf combines knitting, felting, and distinctive dyeing techniques. After knitting, many pieces are felted in hot water, which softens the fibers and adds structure and warmth while enhancing the sculptural qualities of the fabric. Every accessory is an original design made from premium super-soft eco-friendly fibers such as cashmere, merino wool, silk, and cotton. Because I am drawn to bold color and texture, my designs are created to have a dimensional sculptural quality when worn. Each scarf is meant to be both a functional accessory and a piece of wearable textile art.
