About Leah Evans

My current work explores various views of landscape - aerial, underground, and surface level. I use these perspectives to address changes of the landscape created by humans. By incorporating vintage kimonos, upholstery remnants, and many other secondhand materials, the works are in keeping with the quilt tradition of recycling. Techniques include hand-dyeing, appliqué, reverse appliqué, piecing, and a variety of hand embroidery stitches. Processes feature a balance of machine and hand stitching. All design, machine work, and hand work is done by the artist without the aid of a computer or programmable sewing machine.
