About Kathy Cooper
My grandmother hooked rugs, my mother stitched bargello, my aunts owned a knit shop, so it was natural for me to gravitate to fiber art in college. My first works after school were miniature textiles using knotless netting techniques. Moving to rural Maine, I felt I had traveled back in time to a simpler life. That inspired me to focus on everyday art, studying hooked rugs, quilts, and needlework for inspiration. Although experienced in many crafts, I discovered a floorcloth in a magazine and decided to make one. A floorcloth is a painting crafted into a rug. My paintings have now evolved into stories more than rug designs.
