About Ann Brauer
My pieces are contemporary landscapes of open skies and the promises of sunrise and sunset created by carefully selecting tiny pieces of fabric to paint a statement of time and place. Most fabrics are only used once or twice. By combining these colors, the quilts from a distance have a glow and certainty about them while up close there is the meditation and surprise of the individual fabrics. I honor my grandmother’s respect for technique by carefully attaching each strip of fabric to the quilt sewing through the cotton batting onto the back. Then I intensely machine quilt the work to give it even more substance and texture. The binding is hand sewn.
