Ken Sugimoto

The key elements of my metalwork are tension and balance.  By hand-forging an organic and dynamic form and achieving a glossy surface through careful and repeated polishing, I express these elements in a unique way in both sculptural and functional works.

My experience as an industrial designer in Japan and the U.S., the interplay between my cultural background and the metalwork skills I acquired in America, and the contrast between the artisanship I am currently focusing on and the mass production I was once involved with—these elements are intricately woven into my work and continue to shape my creativity.
