About Randi Solin
For over 30 years, I have been creating glass sculptures incorporating both Venetian and American Art Glass techniques. I approach glass as an abstract expressionist painter does canvas. I explore coloration through a complex multi-layering process using glass in all particle sizes (powder, cane, frit, rod, and shards) and fine metal foils to create one-of-a-kind works of blown glass art. I highlight the optics of thick glass by juxtaposing organic hand-blown shapes with a cut and polished lip, revealing the layers of color within each piece like rings of a tree. The resulting works of art are unique compositions, no two will ever be identical. My work invites the viewer to interact with the piece, to hold it, pick it up, to look into its interior life, to feel its incredible weight and mass, and to engage with its optics and its coloration.
