Kirstin Demer

My work explores ideas of the fragility of our lives specifically through the vehicle of handmade paper and artists' books.   I create handmade paper and original paste paper designs incorporating them into each unique object. I use a variety of upcycled materials  vintage leather bags and game boards, paper ephemera, and more to create bindings based on historical processes. The slow and methodical process of binding creates connections in my work both physically and metaphorically.  The journals act as heirlooms which record and chronicle individual stories and experiences.
