Erich Orris

Erich Orris is a studio artist working in forged steel, producing unique kitchen knives conceived as functional design objects. Working under the imprint Fudo Forge, Orris approaches the knife as a resolved sculptural form for an object intended for use, yet executed with the restraint, finish, and permanence of contemporary design. His work is characterized by a deliberate minimalism of silhouette, paired with the expressive surface language of pattern-welded steel. The blade becomes both a structural and visual field where organic patterning emerges through process rather than ornament. Each knife is forged, ground, and finished by hand as a singular work, permanently marked with the artist’s registered forge symbol. While fully functional, the works resist customization in favor of coherence, emphasizing authorship, material honesty, and balance over specification.
