About Constance Collins
Weaving is the perfect medium for someone who sees their world in patterns. I see inspiration for my woven designs everywhere I look from nature architecture and menswear. I love the challenge of modifying traditional weave drafts to create proprietary patterns with curves or diamond shapes where none exist. Weaving is a Zen-like process allowing my ideas to expand as the fabric grows. I use my fabrics as others use paints and inks seeing them as the source material for making my artistic statements. I use my artistic voice to speak to current concerns while creating beautiful art. My collages begin with an issue close to my heart such as climate change or environmental pollution or from the purely artistic desire to create a kaleidoscopic experience for the viewer. I reduce my personal environmental impact by using eco-friendly yarns and upcycle my swatches and samples repurposing them in my artwork. To reduce waste I use my remnant warp yarns to hand make paper for collages.
