I am interested in exploring the possibilities that arise from combining old and new approaches to making. To make my vessels I combine digital technology with a traditional enameling technique called plique a jour to create intricate and delicate pieces that push the boundaries of what is possible with both mediums.



Using computer-aided design (CAD) and 3D printing, I am able to create complex structures and forms that would be nearly impossible to achieve using traditional methods. I then use the plique a jour technique, which involves filling openings of a metal framework with transparent enamel by hand, to create colorful and luminous effects that bring the digital designs to life. This combination of old and new techniques results in pieces that are both modern and timeless, intricate and delicate.



The plique a jour technique dates back to the early 20th century, and it requires great skill and patience to execute. Each piece must be carefully constructed and each cell filled with the appropriate amount of enamel to achieve the desired effect. It is a labor-intensive process, but the end result is a truly unique and stunning work of art.



My work explores the intersection of technology and tradition, and the ways in which the two can complement and enhance each other. I am fascinated by the possibilities that arise from combining these seemingly disparate techniques, and I am excited to continue exploring this intersection in my future work. Through my use of digital technology and the plique a jour technique, I hope to create pieces that are both visually striking and conceptually rich, inviting viewers to engage with the complexities and nuances of these two distinct but complementary worlds.
