Tickets Sales Officially Open for Premier Three-Day Show and Preview Gala
Philadelphia, PA – Tickets are now on sale for the 43rd annual Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show taking place November 8th - 10th, 2019. Kicking off with a preview gala on November 7th, 195 contemporary fine craft artists from across the U.S. and 24 guest artists from Israel will exhibit and sell their work over the four-day weekend.
Held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, the Craft Show is produced by The Women’s Committee of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. As the biggest single fundraiser of the year for the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the event brings nearly 12,000 people to the city each year and has raised over $13 million dollars over its 42-year history. Proceeds from ticket sales impact the museum’s ability to purchase works of art and contemporary craft for the permanent collection. Funds raised from the Show also help to fund education and community outreach projects, state- of-the-art equipment, and special exhibitions.
With over a dozen categories of fine craft represented from ceramics to jewelry to furniture to fiber, attendees will have ample opportunity to interact with the artists during the show, including “meet & greet” tours with artists, opening night gala and award ceremony, on-site artist demonstrations, and a fashion show. This year’s international component will feature over two-dozen guest artists from Israel. Additionally, there will be work by recent alumni and students studying at Drexel University, Moore College of Art & Design, and Savannah College of Art & Design - Jewelry Graduate Study Program.
Participating artists are selected by five national jurors representing a myriad of expertise in the art of fine craft including Elisabeth Agro, Daniel Clayman, Jane Sauer, Lewis Wexler, and Ellen Wieske. Collectively the jurors have their work in museums around the country, are curators, lecturers, studio artists, and gallery owners and serve on Boards and Committees in the world of fine craft.
Anja Levitties, Show Chair for 2019, is looking forward to welcoming the artists and the public. “This year’s show will continue our long-standing tradition of bringing the finest in contemporary craft and design to Philadelphia”, says Levitties. “We are excited for our visitors to join us over the weekend of November 8-10 as we welcome master craftspeople, emerging artists, and guest artists from Israel.”
Bryan Hopkins is one of the returning artists in 2019. As the recipient of the Best of Show award in 2018, Bryan shares, “I’m excited to bring a new series of work combining my love of modernist architecture with my passion for the historic ceramic formats of the cup and vase.”
This year’s Guest Artist Program will feature 24 artists from Israel thanks to the support of AIDA (Association of Israel’s Decorative Arts). AIDA’s mission is to foster the development of contemporary decorative artists from Israel by connecting them to an international audience of galleries, institutions and collectors.
