The Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show announces 195 contemporary craft artists from 31 states who’ve been selected to participate in the 41st Annual Craft Show. These artists have been chosen from more than 870 applicants by five jurors to showcase and sell their one-of-a kind, museum quality pieces at this year’s show, which runs November 9-12 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
The Women’s Committee of the Philadelphia Museum of Art presents this annual juried Craft Show as a fundraiser for the Museum. Over the last 40 years more than $12 million in proceeds went to the Museum. The impact of the Show can be seen throughout the Museum with Craft Show funds used to purchase or support hundreds of items and improvements and renovations and programs including the Art Splash family program, and special exhibitions.
“We are excited to kick-off our 41st Craft Show season with the announcement of this year’s jury selected artists,” said Pam Yih, Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show Chair. “The art will include a mix of traditional, cutting edge, and innovative pieces from established artists, emerging artists, artists of the future - university art school students, and special guest artists from Korea.”
The Show offers visitors the unique opportunity to speak with each of the 195 of the country’s finest craft artists, and to learn about and purchase their one-of-a-kind works, including: glass, baskets, jewelry, both wearable and decorative fiber, metal, paper, leather, furniture, ceramic, wood, and mixed media.
“I was honored and fortunate to be named the 2016 Eric Berg Excellence in Metal winner, thus receiving an invitation to the 2017 Show,” said Stacey Lee Webber, Philadelphia artist. “Being given the opportunity to return to one of the best shows in the country is awesome as it is extremely competitive to receive an invitation. Philadelphia is such a supportive area for artists; I look forward to sharing my passion and work in metal with the Show’s attendees.”
Many of the artists at this year’s Craft Show have pieces in collections at The Smithsonian Museum of America Art, The Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and other private museum collections. They also have published works, and sold their pieces to celebrities including Mario Batali, Wolfgang Puck, Oprah, Vice President Mike Pence, Rachel Maddow, Jill Scott, Dave Matthews, Stevie Wonder, and work featured on the set of 90210.
The Guest Artist Program returns featuring 25 artists from Korea, thanks to the support of Soluna, a new global enterprise that connects leading Asian artists with people who value creativity, individuality, tradition and quality.
Preview Party is a gala cocktail buffet that offers a first look at the works of the contemporary craft by the 195 crafts artists in the United States and artists from Korea.
