About Charles Faucher
As a long time furniture maker, I always have to figure out how to make what I have sketched. The same is true for my turned work. All my pieces are assemblies of rings of different colored woods which are fit together in different ways to create different effects. Some horizontal works have a common center and are sculptured. The outside and inside of rings on other flat designs are cut on different centers and give energy to the surface. On vertical forms, I cut the surface on adjacent rings on different axes, again to give energy to the design. The result is a body of work which is colored, certainly, and playful in its manipulations.
