Keoni Carlson

Colorado Springs, CO

My canvas is wood... my tools: a lathe, sharpened steel, fire and ink. Using the simplest of geometric shapes, a 1/8 line, I turn, then hand-carve wall and counter sculpture where wood is re-imagined as woven and beaded basketry. Inspiration comes from Native Culture legends and mythology. I interpret the storytelling imagery in both contemporary and traditional motifs. My approach is optimistic, sometimes whimsical always present tense. I am self-taught, a 2nd generation woodworker, honored by multiple exhibition & gallery juried selections.
