Julia Turner

San Francisco, CA

My work is the reflection of a daily fascination with the language of objects. I'm inspired by my modern urban surroundings, and grounded by years of training in traditional techniques. I experiment constantly, mixing hot and cold connections, carving and fabricating, wood and gold, traditional enamel and industrial paint. My pieces are clean and direct, yet call up layers of associations that invite conversation: my own references to architecture, music, games, memories, processes and places are the starting point, and the rest of the stories emerge through the wearer, over time.
