Melissa R. Schmidt

My work is composed of glass bubbles and blown vessels used as the object of beauty and the container of things to be admired, enjoyed and discovered. Flexible materials inside the inflexible glass sit comfortably together as opposites. They appear heavy and delicate but are strong and nearly weightless. Lampworked blown glass with photography, rolled metal foil, frit glass, glass stringers used to draw intricate designs, gold leaf and preserved plants.
