Mary Jaeger

Brooklyn, NY

My work focuses on intricate layers of textiles. I am inspired by the relationships between the textures, proportions, patterns, colors and shapes of textiles that start flat, then wrap a three-dimensional form. I combine multiple methods of dyeing, stitching, piecing, pleating, quilting, shrinking and deconstructing fabrics that are carefully made into garments using couture sewing techniques. I think of my work as soft sculptures for the body.
