Ann Roantree

I design and weave one-of-a-kind and limited edition textiles. For me, weaving always begins off the loom with design. It starts with an idea, an experience, a point of view, a problem to solve, an artistic exploration. The decision of what to weave is influenced by an accumulation of experiences and where my eye is traveling at a point in time. The rugs are flat weave, weft faced, often double-sided. My intellectual, artistic, and technical challenge has been to create deconstructed, asymmetric, angular, curvilinear designs within a strict loom-controlled, block weave grid system.
