Ann Brauer

Using simple cotton fabrics, a technique I call quilt as you go and memories of traditional quilts, I continue to push my quilts to create colors and designs that convey abstract landscapes of my imagination. In some quilts, I use the freedom of wedges of fabric like paints to create colors and motion. Sometimes I juxtapose the two styles to create a hidden story that remains just below the surface of the quilt. While my quilts are complex in their detail, there is also an immediate simplicity to them in the color and design that makes the work accessible and meditative.
