About Leda Almar

I'm passionate about human nature, especially the female figure; her emotions and feelings, which is what I try to capture in my art. I like to tell stories, the narrative is very important to me, as well as the emotion and the attitude of the character. I use women as my subjects because I think my portraits always have a hint of autobiography in the narrative. My characters show attitudes that generally match up with how I'm feeling at that moment. What I love about working with clay, especially on my Raku’s series is that I never have 100% control of the results; there is a sense of mystery in each step in the process, and that is fascinating. I like to play with the unexpected and the accidents in my pieces. I don’t sketch or plan, I work on series, and once I find what I want to say, the process begins to flow.
