My work uses textiles and metals to explore relationships between materials as I push the boundaries of their traditional uses. I was inspired by my grandmother's old thread collection; I began to experiment with how I could engage the repurposed thread's materiality and beautiful color. In each piece I explore tension and balance between hard and soft, stark metal and brightly colored thread, to create a visual conversation between disparate elements. I utilize traditional metal smithing techniques with a focus on fabrication to create metal settings I then fill with thread. In my finished work I hope to share my love of material exploration, my passion for color, and my excitement about the possibilities of wearable art.
