About Nancy Kubale
My current work contemplates our shared existence and individual essence. I liken it to a pursuit of universals. I am intrigued by who we are, how we live and the ideologies we embrace. Figures are hand builtin red stoneware clay (Indigenous to my North Carolina home). I layer the surface through multiple firings with slips, burnished porcelain terra sigillata, oxides, underglaze, glaze, and underglaze pencil, reverse lithography and serigraphy printing; firing each 3 to 5 times. Text is often added for the way words and language shape our perception and context.
