About Katie Murphy
I am archiving a reflection of my visual cortex while reacting empathetically to each object’s feelings. Marks of the past, present and future poetically form each piece. I use Trompe-l'oeil to lure and challenge the viewer's perception of reality. I hand form and use subtractive carving to create these benign decaying surfaces with hyper detail. Opening orifices of textures, light and shadow to create a landscape of reflective color used to quietly hypnotize the viewer, calling attention to their urges and desires. The dichotomy of look but don't touch generates a visual intimacy through these human like appendages. I blend nature into the collection as I attempt to foster a mindful dialogue of awareness to our environment.
