Ming Yuen-Schat

Brooklyn, NY

My work explores this intersection between East and West, drawing on the Asian sensibilities I grew up with to reveal the beauty of asymmetrical, ambiguous forms. I am particularly interested in the interplay between crisp, modernist esthetics and the sensibility of wabi-sabi: that which is imperfect, asymmetrical, and ostensibly crude. Through an intercultural lens, I hope to challenge the distinctions between craft, function and fine art.
