Mixed media sculpture which is created by 2 collaborative artists. Materials used are primarily carved & painted basswood and copper that has been hand-hammered or embossed using artist-made dyes. The metal is then achieves a patina through the addition of our own chemical formulations. Hardwoods are sometimes incorporated and often stained with aniline dyes. The use of iconic images in our work is an important aspect of our new sculpture. The boat is a symbol of the spiritual journey and the nest is symbolic of home and security. This series is an exploration of forms, textures, color and a variety of materials which is what imbues the work with an air of mystery. The pedestals for the boats are carefully considered and designed as an integral part of the sculpture.
