Nancy Reid Carr

North Kingston, RI

My intention through my artwork is to find calm tension within chaos. I strive to create an evocative visual escape for the viewer. The images I create are quiet & serene with a distinct focus on color, texture & composition. My simplicity in design combined with the quality of the aluminum offer a fresh, modern aesthetic. My current process involves using cutting edge technology to transpose my imagery directly onto brushed aluminum substrate originally developed for architectural purposes. Using highly adhesive, water resistant inks and intense ultra violet light the imagery is essentially baked onto the plate leaving the “whites” and lighter values blank so that the metal is exposed creating a luminous, three dimensional effect. I then hand cut elements from different images and assemble these, combining multiple plates to create unique ready to hang, three dimensional mixed media wall pieces.
