Bob McNally

Rockaway, NJ

My work is anything but traditional, and anything but conventional. I invented these instruments for new sounds, to open access to music for non-players, and to create new ways to make music. My goal is to delight both the eyes and the ears. I approach design as a musician; visual rhythm, visual harmony, and lyrical beauty are my aims. Many of these instruments employ unique construction techniques (such as one piece neck/body cold forming). The acoustic factors are optimized for each design to produce unusual volume for their sizes, and exquisite tone. Tonewoods (Spruce, Padouk, Koa, Maple, Rosewood) are used throughout. My intention is to appeal to the eye as well as the ear, to design instruments for both players and non-players, and to bring more people into making their own art through playing music.
