Dakota Pratt

Manhattan Beach, CA

All sculptures have a carved wood base. I build up the wood and carve it to the shape that I’m looking for. I flatten vintage bottle caps with a mini sledge hammer on a steel block. Each cap gets eight to fourteen hits. I then cover the wood sculpture with the caps by nailing them on with a brad nailer. Once all of the wood is covered, I go back over it with a hammer to make sure the caps have taken the exact shape of the wood I carved. It is then finished with a two part epoxy finish to seal the entire sculpture. It has a bright glossy finish.
