Chie Hitchner

There was a time when every fabric we wore was hand dyed and hand woven. I try to keep those techniques alive in my own original work. This collection demonstrates a variety of Japanese weaving techniques including warp kasuri (ikat), weft kasuri, zurashi kasuri (ikat where the threads are intentionally offset during the weaving process to give a blurring effect), and the embossed look of "uki-ori." These very different pieces were woven on the same, simple 4-harness loom.
