Andrea Donnelly

Richmond, VA

I use my loom as an artist’s tool, combining techniques of weaving and painting to create museum-collected hand-woven artwork meant for wall, space, and body. Made entirely by hand in small-run series using only the finest cotton, silk, alpaca, merino, and other natural luxury fibers, my hand-woven scarves use dye techniques of ikat, resist and warp painting, and each is one-of-a-kind. The Artifact Collection is my line of hand-screen printed, hand-dyed cotton scarves. They express my passion for the beauty of hand-weaving in an unexpected way; their motifs originate directly from small details in my hand-woven series, literally magnifying an isolated moment of beauty, and celebrating it by transforming it into its own pattern.
